The Women Empowerment project in Stap Verder gives women the chance to gain a new skill and to get to know other woman.
There are sewing lessons in which a thorough course is given by learning to take measurements, make patterns and produce clothing from own design. With these skills, women can make clothes for themselves or their children, fix clothing and make clothes at order. The producing of African women’s clothing is the main focus but trousers and jackets are also made.
During the handicraft lessons the women make jewellery and bags. There is a yearly excursion to the museum of textile for inspiration. Working with the different materials and techniques for making the sellable products is important but the creation of own creativity and relaxation are also important.
Catering and cake decoration are two other skills that we hope to offer as a course in the future.
Participating women can come for a longer period of time and make new friendships and develop a new network.
The sewing lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday evening and the handicraft lessons on Saturdays.
The women present their creations twice a year during a fashion show.
